  Sources » Slide Show		Rutman, Walter Sr. - 1860 US Federal Census Walter Rutman, age 53, was living in Northampton, PA and working as a "laborer." Family included wife Mary (43) and sons Walter (19), William (17), Monroe (14), Allen and Edwin (10), and Thomas (3).
  		Rutman, Walter Sr. - 1880 US Federal Census Walter Rutman, age 74, was living in Northampton, PA and was no longer working. Household included wife Mary (62) and sons Thomas (22, working as a laborer) and Walter Jr. (39), who was also not working due to a Civil War injury. Walter's son Edwin (28) lived next door with his wife Sarah (22), and was working on the railroad (all the live long day, presumably).
  		Rutman, Walter Jr. - 1890 US Federal Census Veterans Schedule This special schedule of the 1890 US Census enumerated Union veterans of the civil war. We learn that Walter Rutman had enlisted with the Pennsylvania 153rd, Company D, on September 22, 1862, and was discharged on July 24, 1863 after suffering a gunshot wound in his left thigh.
  		Rutman, Walter Jr. - Civil War Pension On July 19, 1890 Margaret Rutman filed for pension benefits as the widow of Walter Rutman. The file shows that Walter had previously filed for benefits on May 16, 1866 as an invalid.
