Alfred Gareau (erroneously listed as "Frederick" Gareau), age 44, was living in Escanaba, MI, and was listed as a farm laborer. His family included wife Vitaline (44) and children Omar (19), who worked as a laborer on the family farm, Clara (18), Edith (16), Leo (14), Leah (11), Rosa (10), and Dorena (6). Although the family's primary language was French, they could all, with the exception of Vitaline, speak English as well.
